Historic Electric Tram Rides in the High Tatras

A must for train enthusiasts of all ages, these beautifully restored historic electric trams offer a nostalgic journey into the High Tatras. Running on selected weekends throughout July and August, they recreate the experience of travelling into Slovakia’s most famous mountain range as visitors did years ago.

There are two historic routes to choose from:

🚋 Kométa (Saturday)
Route: Poprad-Tatry → Starý Smokovec → Tatranská Lomnica
Departs: Poprad-Tatry at 10:50 am
Tickets: Fares start from €4 and vary depending on the passenger’s age and the length of the journey. Children under 6 travel free.

Ideal if you want to combine this with a visit Tatranská Lomnica, take the cable car to Skalnaté Pleso, or continue to Lomnický štít.

🚋 Trojča (Sunday)
Route: Poprad-Tatry → Starý Smokovec → Štrbské Pleso
Departs: Poprad-Tatry at 10:50 am
Tickets: Fares start from €3 and vary depending on the passenger’s age and the length of the journey. Children under 6 travel free.

Perfect if you’re heading to Štrbské Pleso for a lakeside walk, a mountain hike, take a cable car to Solisko, or simply to enjoy one of the High Tatras’ most spectacular settings.

Good to know: Consider riding the historic electric tram as a special experience rather than simply a way of getting into the High Tatras. Fares are higher than those on the regular electric railway, so if your main goal is simply to travel into the mountains, the standard public transport trains are a much more economical option. If you’re looking for a nostalgic journey and a unique piece of railway history, however, the historic trams are worth the extra cost.
